We’re two motion graphics students with very different backgrounds and we saw in this contest a way to practice what we’ve been learning so far. We both love CSS and this particular song is very graphic. The first idea that came out was to play around the alcohol “high” - feeling happy, light, and a bit crazy. Just like the song.

We decided to make a little movie before and after the actual video, the story is very simple, some friends in a bar, drinking, smoking and talking like every group of friends, and suddenly someone spills the drink. Here starts the video, as if the band and the song were coming out of the spilled drink. The whole song represents the alcohol buzz, all the band elements are floating in colorfull illustrations like rainbows, butterflies, clouds or flowers, musical notes, like a kaleidoscope. When the music ends, so does the drunken feeling, and we go back to the bar where it all starts.

As we all know, CSS is an anti-glam band, so we thought that this kind of graphic language would suit them, very “rough” and “handmade”, and also simple and outgoing, but at the same time well structured as their music is. All the illustrations were handmade and animated in adobe after effects.
